Few words from the Principal

‘Banmankhi’ literarally means ‘a man of the forest’ Ban (ou) and Mankhi (euq”;). In other words, the man of a jungle. The tribal people reside in jungle and they lead their life with their exclusive styles. There is hardly any place for pretense, hypocrisy, injustice and corruption in their life.

The Narasingh Temple of this city also signifies that no injustice or atrocities can prevail for long period. As Narayana (Lord Vishnu) himself appeared in the avatar of Narasingh (Man and Lion) and tore the heart of the demon Hiranyakashipu, the youths of this city would come forward to fight against any injustice against them. In other words, this city is not meant to bear the injustice in any way. The Manikhambh of Dharahara locality is known for the story that the demon Hiranyakashipu had tied his son Prahlad with this pillar. The Sikaligarh Fort is also known as the monument of Mahabharat period. The Dheemeshwaranath Temple is known as pilgrim place for the devotees of Lord Shiva. The devotees take pious water from the north-flowing Ganga river at Manihari village and walk to this temple to pour it on the idol of Lord Shiva. It is said that the demon Hiranyakashipu too had worshipped Lord Shiva in Dheema and had received the boon of immortality from Him. Shravan Fair is also one attraction of this locality. The famous Durga Temple also reminds us the story of Sati whose heart was dropped in a locality of Banmankhi. As a matter of result, the locality was named as Hridayanagar.

Then after the era of the violent way of taking justice, the period of peace and progress was initiated by Saint Menhidas in this area. His native place Dharahara will keep reminding us that nothing can be achieved without the philosophy of peace, progress and brotherhood in society.

My Gorelal Mehta College is situated in such a historical city which has been known for a sugar mill also. Though this mill is closed for the last three decades, but its sugar is still sweetening the atmosphere of the city. Lets take the college to some new heights with the sweet memories of past. The cooperation of not merely the students but the parents, journalists and other residents is also required for the purpose. My doors are always open for any discussion over the education, culture and creativity in the city.

With the best wishes
